LeBron James could become the first NBA player to play in the same team as his son

NBA records are there to be broken, but LeBron James wants to keep it in the family as he looks to claim one place in the history books that no-one can take away.

Not content with one member of the James lineage earning their place in basketball's limelight, LeBron wants to share the stage with his son, Bronny. The 18-year-old has committed to play the upcoming college season at the University of Southern California and will therefore be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft.

Despite concerns over his age, 38-year-old James has spoken of his 'need' to share the court with his eldest child.

And there's a sense of confidence the four-time NBA champion could play to 40 (and possibly beyond) after helping the Los Angeles Lakers into this year's Conference Finals.

"I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny. . .either in the same uniform or a matchup against him," James told ESPN in January. "But I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure."

That remark is in reference to the father-son duo who both played on the same Seattle Mariners team between 1989 and 1991. Griffey Sr. and Jr. are also the only father-son pair to hit back-to-back home runs in a Major League Baseball fixture, which they achieved against the California Angels in September 1990.

But James hasn't made his previous comments about playing alongside Bronny for effect. In the midst of the Lakers' run to the Western Conference Finals, where they were blown away by eventual champions the Denver Nuggets, LeBron reiterated just how passionate he was about seeing his dream materialise.

"I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny. . .either in the same uniform or a matchup against him," James told ESPN in January. "But I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure."
