Michael Jordan’s Former Chicago Penthouse Sells for Nearly $7 Million

A Chicago penthouse once owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan has sold for $6.82 million. 

Located on Chicago’s prestigious Lake Shore Drive, the triplex apartment was purchased by the six-time NBA champion and his then-wife, Juanita Vanoy Jordan, in 1991 for just over $1 million, according to property records.

The couple divorced in 2006, and Juanita, a real estate agent, sold it for $3.2 million in 2014, records show. The 8,000-square-foot apartment most recently changed hands in late May, selling to a LLC. 

Mansion Global was not able to determine who was behind the LLC. The sellers, who both work in tech, were not available for comment. The deal is the third-most-expensive residential sale in the Chicago area this year, listing records show. 

Compass represented the sellers in the off-market deal. The agent declined to comment. Since it was an off-market deal, details are scarce. But records show the penthouse was created when units on the 39th and 40th floors were combined. 

The four-bedroom, six-bathroom home offers views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline, as well as a rooftop deck, according to the 2014 listing. 

 There are also polished porcelain floors, Rosewood walls and custom tile and millwork throughout, plus an open layout, a solarium with a lounge and dining area, four bars and a media room with a built-in humidor. 

The NBA hall of famer is also trying to sell his more than 30,000-square-foot mansion Highland Park, Illinois—which has been on the market for 10 years and features a Jordan-branded basketball court and a gated entrance with the No. 23—his jersey number—on it. 

Originally listed for $29 million in 2012, it is now on the market for just under $15 million.
